Sector kick-off Steel

2nd of April in Berlin, in cooperation with Thyssenkrupp Steel

On April 2, 2025, the focus workshop on transition plans for the steel industry kicked off the third sector-specific in-depth phase of the Made in Germany 2030 work agenda.

12 participants from the steel and finance sectors discussed the current implementation status and the relevance of transition plans for the efficient and secure financing of real economic requirements. Together, they took a look at the existing regulatory environment and identified possible starting points for harmonization. Key questions on how to deal with infrastructure development and instruments to balance out distortions of competition were also discussed, such as issues relating to the creation of lead markets.

The basic approach of companies in the steel industry, central elements of the transition paths in the transition from the blast furnace route to emission-free steel production were outlined from different perspectives and then compared with the methodology currently used by banks and investors. It became clear, among other things, that such overarching instruments as transition plans have been little used by companies in the real economy in Germany in the past.
